Travel Tips & FAQs ...

Climate & seasons

For residents in the northern hemisphere, Vietnam and Indochina are excellent winter destinations.

Cell Phones

Mobile phones are relatively inexpensive and very popular in Vietnam. They can be very handy if you want to spend a little time exploring on your own, but would like to be able to contact your guide, your hotel, or fellow travelers. Your guide can assist you in renting a mobile phone for the length of your trip.

ATMs vs. Credit Cards

Mikeland is happy to accept payment by major credit card, but as you travel, you will frequently find merchants who don't accept credit card payments or strongly prefer cash. Fortunately, there are convenient ATM locations in major cities such as Hanoi, Danang that can provide cash from your overseas bank account. In a pinch, most of the hotels that you'll be using will be able to provide you with cash withdrawals from your credit card.

Hydration & Sun Tanning

If you're not habituated to the heat and humidity of the tropics, it's easy to get dehydrated. Your Mikeland guide will provide you with bottled water while traveling by car and boat, but if you are planning any extended activities, such as mountain biking or hiking, you may want to bring your "Camelback" along. It's also wise to bring along a bottle of suntan lotion--it's often surprisingly hard to find outside of the larger cities.
